Every year, Audubon offers a number of internships to students looking to further their education and meet specific criteria for academic standards. At Audubon these internships are involved with all aspects of the Society's mission. Learn what internships are currently available by click the link below.

Education Interns

Responsibilities: Assist in teaching age appropriate environmental curriculum for children ages 3 and up. Aid educators in developing environmental education lessons for classroom and outdoor programs, craft projects and general office assistance.  Serve as a liaison between the education community and the Society. Retain information about current natural history and environmental issues. Assist in keeping program props, specimens and resource materials in useable shape.  Answer questions regarding natural history and environmental topics as needed. Miscellaneous other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Interns may be assigned a long-term project to be completed by the end of their internship.

Qualifications: Requires working towards a degree in one of the natural sciences or education, experience working with children, ability and willingness to work outdoors, and excellent communications skills.  Hours may vary and are flexible but must be available a minimum of one day per week, Monday-Friday, preferably between 9am-1pm. Some weekend hours may apply for special events.

Aquarist Interns
Environmental Education Center in Bristol.

Responsibilities:  Assist the Refuge Manager with care of aquariums, terrestrial tanks, and animal pens.  Maintain the freshwater and saltwater exhibit tanks by assisting in: water and filter changes; .feeding classroom and exhibit animals; testing and maintaining water salinity. Conduct necessary repairs to animal exhibits. Other duties and responsibilities as
assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications: Requires working towards a degree in marine biology, biology, or the natural sciences. Interns must be available at least one morning (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday) from 8:00am - 10:30 am.

Gift Shop Interns

Responsibilities:  Assist gift shop manager in all areas of the retail operation of the Audubon Society’s gift
shop. Other dueis may include: running the day-to-day gift shop activities (sales,
merchandising and customer relations); assisting the gift shop manager with the
coordination of  marketing and advertising promotions; developing and creating visual
merchandise presentations. May also be responsible for revenue and expense reporting to
the gift shop manager on a weekly basis. Other front line duties may include: answer
and direct incoming telephone calls; manage visitor services; promote the Audubon
Society of Rhode Island to  visitors; other duties and responsibilities as assigned by
supervisor.

Qualifications: Requires working towards a degree in business or communications. Will accept a student in other fields of study with retail experience. Must be available for at least one 3 hour shift per week between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm.
