Environmental Education Offers Answers

How did you spend your play time as a child?  Did you go outside and explore the "woods"?  While there, did you play capture the flag, hide ‘n' seek, or maybe build a fort?  For most adults, the connection to nature began with similar, positive, childhood experiences.

By contrast, today's children are spending less and less time playing outside than in years past; however, they do spend an average of four hours each day watching TV and playing video games.  In addition, parents concerned for the safety of their children further limit their outdoor activities.  Some schools have even eliminated recess.

Birthday Parties
Our Birthday parties feature a 2-hour fun and educational party for your child and his/her guests. We learn about animals, spend time outdoors (weather and programming permitting) and see live animals. Your child and friends will learn about nature while having fun and enjoying their birthday.

An Audubon Naturalist will lead the party for the first hour with themed games and activities. You can choose from one of the many party themes we offer.

Education

More than 33,000 children and thousands of adults learn about nature's wonders through Audubon programs annually. We connect you and your family with nature's fun and mystery year-round at our Environmental Education Center, Audubon refuges and school classrooms.

We promote the love and understanding of nature to inspire you and to encourage sound stewardship of our valuable natural resources.

Audubon's trained educators use the environment as a living classroom and have developed educational programs that complement school science curriculums with a unique combination of classroom and outdoor experiences.

Environmental education enhances students' thinking skills while increasing performance in science and other academic areas. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Environment Council of Rhode Island have recognized the excellence of our environmental education programs.
