People of all ages volunteer at Audubon Society of Rhode Island. High school and college students, singles, working couples, and retirees. We also partner with groups who provide volunteers for us such as college community service programs and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).  

Join the Audubon Society's Public Events Team!
ASRI is looking for a few special people who truly enjoy working with and speaking to the public, to join our Public Events Team. These volunteers represent the Audubon Society at various off-site functions throughout Rhode Island. Each candidate will be asked to commit to attending at least 2 events per year. A specialized training and orientation will be provided.  If you are interested please send an email to Cathy Corey or Dot Mathurin.  Previous experience in public speaking or working with the general public is preferred.

Gift Shop Associates and/or Receptionists, Headquarters:
Volunteers are needed to work in the Gift Shop and/or as receptionists at Audubon Headquarters in Smithfield. This is a fun way to meet people and learn basic natural history, as well as to help Audubon's bottom line. A regular commitment of one morning or afternoon a week and some phone or sales experience is preferred.  Training will be provided. Contact Dot Mathurin.

Special Events Committee:
A committee is needed to help with special fund-raising events on a one-time basis or more. Responsibilities: Assist in planning and execution of fund-raising events, working with Development staff and professionals. These responsibilities may include bulk mailing, telephone calls, coordination of committees, and all details of a large event. Qualifications: Interest in large-scale, large-budget event planning essential. Demonstrated strong detail orientation required. Ability to complete tasks on or before deadlines. Demonstrated ability to be calm under pressure and ability to smile in the face of event snafus. Time Requirements: As needed for each event.

Refuge Maintenance:
Maintenance of each refuge is as different as the refuges. Generally speaking, landscaping, trail maintenance, carpentry, painting, and general repairs are needed for the refuges. Responsibilities: Report to properties department for various assignments. The properties manager will be the supervisor. Qualifications: 18 years or older for operating any machinery or power equipment. Ability to be supervised and follow directions with attention to detail. Some craftsman skills or general handyperson abilities and familiarity wih hand tools. Pride in appearance of the refuge that include mowing, picking up trash, and weeding. Time Commitment: A regular commitment of agreed-upon hours or a one-time session.

 Volunteer Meetings:
At Caratunk , contact Mike Tucker for meeting times, usually held once a month. We have a wide variety of volunteer needs at Caratunk. Anyone interested in helping can attend these meetings.
